This morning from 9-10:40AM I participated in the oral defense of my dissertation. At the conclusion, the degree of doctor was conferred upon me. It’s been quite a fruitful season in my doctoral studies. I have enjoyed every minute of it and now, with only a few details and technicalities left to attend to, a deep sense of gratitude fills me as I reflect on what has been. My first couple years were filled with reading books, writing reports, attending seminars, and engaging in stimulating discussions with my professors and peers. But in 2012 I began my actual dissertation work. I started on January 19 and submitted my dissertation three months to the day, my birthday, April 19. I worked incredibly hard. Long days and nights. It felt good to send off my work on the day of my birth – a nice present to give to myself. Now, almost three months to day from April 19, I had the pleasure of defending my dissertation to representatives of Covenant Theological Seminary. To be honest, I was surprised to hear the congratulation framed within the bestowing of my doctorate. For some reason I thought the awarding of the title would be later. Nevertheless, it was truly a moment of joy…and more so gratitude…for the journey, the people, and the grace of God through it all.
Now, on to the next challenge…

Well done sir, very well done. May the next phase of your journey be as fruitful as the last.
Congratulations Dr. Arrington.
I can’t imagine that amount of work, brain power, and energy put forth to earn your degree. What an exciting celebration for you, your family, and our church. Congratulations!!!
So proud of you Yancey! First “Doctor” in the family…and NO Jodey, Doctor Feel Good doesn’t count!
Congrats – it’s an amazing achievement in such a short time! I’m very excited for you.
And I’ll ask the question – the next challenge – what is that going to be? I’m interested!
Way to go Yancey! Heck of an encouragement!
Yancey….You will never know how proud your Mom and Dad are of you. Tears came into my eyes when you told me about your defense of your dissertation and the response from the professors. God has truly blessed our family with God fearing, God loving and God serving children. Thank you and your sweet wife for making your Mom and Dad so proud. I know you couldn’t have done this without Jennefer’s help. May God continue to bless your life, your family, and your ministry.
Love / Dad
