Christians should be good at thankfulness. I’m not saying they are. I’m saying they should be. They are people who, because of their great sin, have existed with a gulf between them and God, but, because of God’s great love, “now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ” (Eph. 2:13). This is the gospel. Good news. It is news that should fire the engines of our thankfulness for eternity. So when it comes to a day where we celebrate thankfulness as a nation, Followers of Jesus shouldn’t need to dig very deep to tap into their gratitude.
With that being said, I wanted to take a moment in this post to reflect on things which come to my mind for which I’m very thankful. I’m thankful for…
- A beautiful wife who serves me selflessly and is as true in private as she is in public. I definitely got the better end of the deal!
- Children who are growing in their knowledge of the gospel, create a welcoming party every time I come home from work and love to hug and kiss their daddy.
- A church who isn’t fearful of growing, changing, taking risks, making mistakes, and leading with courage and tenacity.
- Doing life with men who understand my quirks, bents and passions, and still love (and put up with) me. Some serve with co-workers, I serve with brothers.
- Friends who have stayed with me for the long haul. They know me better than most and still want to hang out with me. There are few things which are truly priceless. You can count them in that category.
- Parents who weren’t perfect but pointed me to the One who was. Actually, I’m very grateful to my mother and father for my upbringing. Because of them, I have never known what it’s like to feel unloved.
The list could grow quite long. Indeed, I’m sure it could be limitless. Most of all, once again, I’m thankful for the gospel and the wonderful God who has brought it to me.
Because of God’s great grace, every day is Thanksgiving.
