Darrin Patrick is a friend of mine who leads a wonderful church in St. Louis. He has also recently authored a book entitled Church Planter: The Man, The Message, The Mission. A promotional video for his book was posted this morning and after watching it, I can say, if you don’t read the book (which I hope you do if you’re a Lead Pastor), this video should at least inspire you to lead your church well.

First let me tell you that I am a HUGE fan of yours and your teaching/ministry. But I also want you to know that I am also a fan of Joel Osteens. My husband was diagnosed with colon cancer 8 years ago and 4 years ago he died. During those 4 years he was “battling” cancer Joel and Dottie Osteen were a great source of comfort for my family. Honestly until 2 days before my husband died, I really thought he was going to beat it. I had a peace about me and that was the only thing that kept me going for 4 years. I have also learned from Joel that no matter what God will always be there for me. And my relationship with my husband was the best ever during those 4 years and well as our families. I got the impression from your message on Sunday that you don’t think that Joel ever mentions suffering and only mentions the positive things in life. I receive a message “of the day” weekdays from Lakewood (Joel and Victoria) and his message today was 1Peter 4:12-13 Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering as though something strange were happening to you, but rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ so that you may be overjoy when his Glory is revealed.
I thought it was ironic that the very next day after your message of suffering, he mentioned it since I got the impression you thought he only talked about positive things and your best life now!!!
Anyway, just wanted to share that with you. Again, as I stated at the beginning, I think you are great and I enjoy your messages so much. Keep up the good work, but give Joel Osteen a break too!
