Thoughts on Fandango 2009

My wife reminded me that I was gone from home 16 days in the month of June. Needless to say, I haven’t had much time to blog or do anything else for that matter. Sorry for the delay. I’ve been in North Carolina, West Texas and the Hill Country during that time. While I’m worn out I wouldn’t have missed those trips for anything. If you’ve read my last couple of posts you would know that one of those trips (Hill Country) was with my college buddies. We call it Fandango. Here are my thoughts from that trip…

  1. There are fewer places my heart is at home than the rugged yet beautiful Texas Hill Country.
  2. Road trips with good friends are the best way to travel. Cuts the perceived “travel time” into a fraction!
  3. It’s hard to beat floating in the cool Guadalupe River on a hot summer day. It is also a  great way to thumb your nose at 100+ degree weather.
  4. I love my state. Texas has a mystique, a braggadocio, a grandiosity to it no other state can parallel. Period. And by the way, it lives up to it! (If you don’t like that statement, you must not be a Texan. ;))
  5. Males and firearms have an inseparable,  instinctive union. The bigger the bang, the better the experience.
  6. Shooting a thousand rounds doesn’t take as long as you would think.
  7. Once God gives you friendships you wouldn’t want to lose…then don’t. Be intentional about keeping them alive and well, no matter how their zip codes change.
  8. While Facebook, Twitter and the rest of technology can be nice additions to aid your friendships, nothing…and I mean NOTHING beats flesh and blood, face-to-face, real-time presence together. Anything else is a poor and unworthy substitute. Tweet that!
  9. God has been and is in the business of giving me what I don’t deserve. I know it. I see it. And I pray I’m truly grateful for it, too.
  10. Everyone should Fandango.
