The Value of Inspiration

If your actions inspire others to dream more,
learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader
.”
John Quincy Adams

There is no question that when it comes to great leadership, inspiration is a huge commodity. I would argue it was key factor in our most recent presidential election. Yup, it’s that big of a deal. Inspiration, while not the sole quality of good leadership, is such a powerful weapon in pulling people from the quicksand of apathy and mediocrity.

I’d like to think I am an inspirational leader, but my confidence is easily shaken when I see people like Nick Skytland providing inspiration in such healthy and creative doses. Nick is one of many up-and-coming (I’d say “already arrived”) young leaders God has blessed our church with. He also works for NASA which has been known to employ a few leaders themselves. Recently Nick put together a slide show for NASA which answered the question: Why should NASA go (back) to the moon?

Think about that challenge. Your assignment is to inspire people to join the bandwagon for NASA to do something that we’ve already done before. While some might want give people statistics or scientific data to move others to action, Nick knows what a good leader knows…it’s about inspiration.

The following is Nick’s slide show. I was totally amazed (and very much inspired) after watching this. I couldn’t believe it was just a slide show. No soundtrack. No moving pictures. (Maybe that’s for version 2.0, Nick) And yet, even after viewing 101 slides I was shaking my head at how excellent this presentation was. So here you go.

Be inspired…
