A New Home

For quite some time I’ve been pondering moving from my previous blog host to my own server. I have a couple of reasons. First, I wanted to use WordPress.org as my blog software. It’s the most powerful blog software on the planet, it’s open source and allows me to add more functionality and creativity on my blog. I’m sure my learning curve will be quite steep initially, but I hope to catch on soon enough that I don’t delete more posts than create. (Fortunately, I was able to import all my GLP posts so all is not lost!)

I also wanted a dedicated server (a WordPress requirement anyhow) where I could have full freedom to utilize my domain names. Frankly, for years I’ve hestitated to have a domain using my name. It comes across to me as egocentric and haughty, yet after speaking with friends, web-techies and other pastors, it seems having your name as your URL is the most intuitive step to take for people who want to discover your blog. That wasn’t a problem for me since I did not promote my blog to anyone. It was primarily for me to record my thoughts. However, over time I’ve had more than enough people chastise me for keeping it on the down-low. In recent days I’ve acknowleged that response by putting name in my blog. Now I will put my name on my blog.

Welcome to my blog’s new home at www.YanceyArrington.com

  1. YAY! Congrats on the new domain.

I look forward to your blogs–your messages always inspire and intrigue (and confuse) me.

  2. Definitely a good thing–makes me do my research and really think about things and helps me see things in a different light.

  3. Hey, I am excited for ya! Most blogs I follow use the WordPress especially pastors that I tend to read. So have fun, there is way more to do on a wordpress blog. 🙂

Thanks Kara. I have a feeling it will be a long learning curve, but only time will tell.
